MAJOR WINNER’S CLUBS: Jason Dufner won the PGA Championship, thanks in part to his second round 63, which ties the best score ever recorded in a major. He broke the Oak Hill Country Club competitive course record along the way, which was 64 and held by Ben Hogan (1942 Rochester Open), Curtis Strange (1989 U.S. Open) and Webb Simpson (2013 PGA Championship). Perhaps overlooked by his impressive performance was that Dufner matched the best first 36-hole score at the PGA Championship with a 131, which is shared with six others.
Dufner won playing the Titleist Pro V1 golf ball, 910D2 driver (9.5*) with Mitsubishi Diamana Ahina 60 X shaft and a 913F fairway metal (13.5*) with Aldila VS Proto 70 X shaft. He also relied on a 913Fd fairway metal (18*) with a Mitsubishi Diamana Ilima 80 X shaft and a 913H hybrid (19*) with a True Temper PXI 6.5 shaft. He played the AP2 prototype 714 irons (4-PW) with True Temper PXI 6.5, which have yet to be formally announced or released to the public. He used Vokey Design SM4 sand (54*) wedge and TVD K-grind lob (60*) wedge with True Temper Dynamic Gold Spinner shafts. Dufner also used a Scotty Cameron by Titleist prototype putter in his major victory. According to TOUR sources, Dufner relied on Golf Pride Z-Grip Cord grips on his clubs and wore FootJoy XPS-1 golf shoes.
For anyone keeping score, Titleist claimed two major victories in 2013, while TaylorMade and Callaway earned one a piece.
