If you have played recently, you have likely noticed that the irrigation system is receiving special attention. We are currently in the process of updating the computerized controls that operate the entire golf course irrigation system. While we are not installing a completely new system, the current sprinkler heads, piping, and pumping station will remain, we are upgrading to a modern control system. When finished, the new Toro Lynx control system will provide us with ability to better manage our irrigation in the following ways:
- Individual sprinkler head control—run times of individual sprinklers can be adjusted to minimize wet and dry spots
- Site specific programming—sprinkler run times are easily adjusted for different course areas such as greens, tees, fairways, rough, clubhouse lawn, practice areas, etc.
- Remote access—irrigation system can be adjusted and turned on and off via mobile device
- Soil sensors—sensors will be placed in greens to monitor moisture levels, temperature, and salinity.
- Upgraded lightning protection—improved reliability during and after thunderstorms
- Radio control—sprinkler heads can be turned on via radio for troubleshooting and to determine whether they function properly.
- Pump control—the new system will be tied together with our pump station to maximize efficiency.Pump outputs can be viewed from the maintenance building and via mobile device.
Installing the new system is a very tedious and time consuming process. During the installation the irrigation contractor will be pulling wire, trenching in grounding plates, installing new components at all 912 sprinkler heads, and troubleshooting any issues that arise. The installation will likely last for the next few weeks. During this process you will likely see sprinklers running from time to time as their function needs to be verified and any problems must be resolved. We appreciate your patience during the installation.
