Driving Range Grass Surface Opens Today

The grass surface on the range tee will open today.  Make sure to come out and make use of it for demo day.  The turf is much improved following last fall’s aerification and overseeding.  Staff members applied additional fertilizer applications this spring to encourage further recovery.  We truly appreciate your patience in adhering to the “mats only” policy for the early spring.  The extended break has allowed the tee to recover nicely.

The golf course maintenance team will place a priority on maintaining a high quality teeing surface for this season.  In addition to regularly scheduled mowing, fertilizer and plant protectant applications, maintenance team members will clean and fill all divots on a daily basis.  Even with the intensified maintenance, there are a couples things that we, as players, can do to assist in this process.  First of all, divot boxes are now located on the tee.  Please take a few seconds to help fill your divots after use.  While staff members will complete a comprehensive repair on a daily basis, some assistance will allow for us to complete the repair more quickly and to focus our work on daily course conditioning.  Secondly, we ask that you follow the preferred divot pattern as pictured to the right.   By taking divots in a long strip, rather than a spread out pattern or a large hole, we are able to maximize the useful surface on the tee.  When practicing for extended periods, taking divots in multiple strips with a 1” strip of healthy grass between the divot strips is preferred.  This will allow for the divots to grow in through both seed germination and laterally from the healthy turf.

At Hidden Glen we are fortunate to have the best practice facility in the state.  With the maintenance team’s intensified maintenance and Kevin’s arsenal of training aids, the quality and usefulness of these facilities will only improve.  Be sure to check out Kevin’s new wedge area located near the fairway on the practice hole.  We thank you in advance for doing your part in helping to make these areas the best they can be.
