Golf course maintenance team members had a busy Monday as they expanded the fairway on #8 in front of the green. Prior to the renovation, the fairway only led to the front and left of the putting green. The increased size of the fairway now leads in front of the pot bunker, all the way to the right side of the green.
Staff members removed the rough sod from in front of the green. This sod will be used to resurface the area adjacent to the end of the cart path on #8 tee, as it had become worn out over the years. New fairway sod was then harvested from the south side of the driving range and transplanted on to the new fairway on #8.
The newly expanded fairway will serve to alleviate some of the pressure that comes from this hole’s severely undulated and elevated green, as well as its blind shot. Any incoming shots that now land short will feed into the collection area on the right, providing multiple options for chipping or putting onto the green. This area will be ruled as ground under repair until it has time to properly grow in. It will open next spring.
